Frequently Asked Question

Computer Tower No Internet
Last Updated 5 years ago

You are probably visiting this FAQ from another computer if you are having an internet problem, so if your computer tower has no internet, the first thing to check is that the Ethernet cable in the back of the computer is plugged in. The Ethernet cable is typically blue, but the color can vary. The end of the cable resembles a "phone line" cable that clicks into the port.

1. Make sure the cable is plugged in all the way
2. Check for blinking lights where it is plugged into the computer (blinking lights indicate that the cable is ACTIVE and is providing DATA to the computer).
3. Follow the cable and make sure it comes from a port in the wall, or that it is connected to a switch somewhere. A switch is a box that other Ethernet cables connect to. It basically redistributes the connection to other places. If it is connected to a switch, make sure that the switch is plugged in (if it is on the lights will be blinking). If the switch is on, make sure a cable is plugged into the switch from the wall.
4. If you still have no internet, or if none of this makes sense, call the tech department and we will make sure to get you all fixed up!
